Yangju's 'Byeol·So·Gut' Festival Delights with Vibrant Intangible Heritage Performances
The '2026 Gyeonggi Province Intangible Cultural Heritage Permanent Performance Byeol·So·Gut,' offering a chance to directly experience Gyeonggi Province's intangible cultural heritage (traditional performances and skills with long histories), was held in Yangju on the 11th. Citizens and children enjoyed the splendor of Korean culture through exciting performances and hands-on experiences.
The event, themed 'A Meeting of Byeolsandae Nori and Sonori,' features a joint performance by the national intangible heritage holders, the Yangju Byeolsandae Nori Preservation Society and the Yangju Sonori Gut Preservation Society. This event will be held regularly every second and fourth Saturday until October, starting from the 11th. The performance showcased various intangible heritage items, including Aesadang Beopgo Nori, Sonori Gut performances, and the first act's Sangjwa Chum.
Yangju Mayor Kang Soo-hyun and citizens participated in a session to learn Byeolsandae Nori. Young attendees enjoyed the performances while wearing masks they had made themselves, and spent their time participating in diverse programs such as mask-making workshops, playing the Haegeum and Janggu, and trying on traditional costumes.
Yoon Dong-joon, a disciple of Yangju Byeolsandae Nori, commented, "It was meaningful to see so many children attend on the first day of the event." He added, "I hope this event serves as an opportunity to promote the characteristics of Yangju Byeolsandae Nori and Sonori."
