Lee Jae-myung Receives Pistol and Live Ammunition as Gift from President Erdogan in Turkey

President Lee Jae-myung received a pistol engraved with his name and six rounds of live ammunition from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the 11th, upon departing Turkey after attending the NATO summit. President Erdogan gifted the pistols, presented in wooden boxes inscribed with the Turkish flag and NATO logos, to the various heads of state attending the meeting; the boxes bore the inscription 'the first revolver-type pistol produced in Turkey.'

The move appears aimed at promoting the country's defense industry.

While leaders of other nations responded variously due to ambiguity regarding firearm import procedures—either storing the items at their local embassies or discarding the live ammunition—the Presidential Office announced that it would safely transfer the gift to the Presidential Archives under the management of the Security Service in advance.
