Coupang's Operating Profit Surges 40% Last Year

Coupang continued its growth trajectory last year, reporting an operating profit of 2.2883 trillion won, a 40.9% increase from the previous year. Net profit rose 37% to 1.5891 trillion won, while revenue also grew 18.7% year-on-year to 45.4555 trillion won.

This outcome indicates that Coupang's core online shopping and delivery services are increasingly being chosen by customers. Factors such as an efficient logistics system and differentiated services like Rocket Delivery drove consumer usage, with customers placing high value on the convenience and price competitiveness of the services. Coupang's performance last year highlights the growth potential of the online commerce market.

Despite issues involving personal information leaks, Coupang's transaction volume and user numbers did not show a decline.

Coupang achieved its first annual profit in 2023 and cleared accumulated deficits by transferring 6.2159 trillion won from its additional paid-in capital to retained earnings. As of the end of last year, total debt stood at 15.2 trillion won, an increase of 2.7 trillion won from the previous year.
