Man in his 60s Sentenced to Jail for Attempted Luring of Two Teenage Girls

A man in his 60s, who attempted to illegally take away two teenage girls on the street, has been sentenced to jail. The Chuncheon District Court, Wonju Branch, Criminal Division 2, sentenced Mr. A (66), who was indicted on charges of attempted abduction of a minor and attempted luring of a minor, to 8 months in prison, suspended for 2 years. Mr. A was also ordered to undergo probation.

Early last April, Mr. A approached Ms. B (10) in front of an elementary school on Chiak-ro, Wonju City, grabbed her wrist, and attempted to take her away. However, Ms. B broke free and ran, resulting in an attempted abduction. On May 21 of the same year, around 7:56 p.m., Mr. A approached Ms. C (11) on the sidewalk of Chiak-ro, Wonju City, and attempted to take her away. Ms. C's grandmother appeared and intervened, stopping Mr. A's luring attempt, which also resulted in a failure.

The court deemed the crime serious, stating the man could have endangered the minors. The judge determined the sentence considering the significant mental distress inflicted upon the victims and the fact that the defendant was not forgiven.
