Solemn Funeral Rites Held for Two Fallen Firefighters

Solemn funeral rites to honor the noble sacrifice of Captain Park Seung-won and Firefighter Noh Tae-young, who died protecting the lives of citizens, will be held in Wando, South Jeolla Province, on the 14th.

Prime Minister Kim Min-seok visited the funeral homes of the two fallen firefighters on the morning of the 13th to pay his respects and posthumously award them medals. Prime Minister Kim Min-seok announced support for their special one-rank promotion and interment at the National Cemetery. On the afternoon of the 13th, a joint memorial altar was set up at the Wando Culture and Arts Center for public mourning.

At a funeral home in Wando County, South Jeolla Province, fellow firefighters and acquaintances continued to visit from early morning to pay their respects. Captain Park Seung-won was a 19-year veteran of the rescue team. Colleagues remembered him as proactive in all matters and a person of good character. He is survived by his wife and two young sons, with a daughter also under his care. Firefighter Noh Tae-young was remembered by his peers as always cheerful and positive, and as someone who took good care of his juniors. He was employed in 2022 and was set to marry in October.
