Candidate Mergers Fuel Confusion in Jeonbuk Education Chief Race
The Jeonbuk Education Chief election, ahead of the June 3 local elections, is becoming more complex and adding to voter confusion with successive candidate unification movements. After the attempt at 'Democratic Progressive Education Chief Candidate Unification' failed, discussions on alliances and unification among preliminary candidates intensified, leading to multiple realignments of the election landscape.
Preliminary candidate Lee Nam-ho and preliminary candidate Hwang Ho-jin declared a 'unification under Candidate Lee Nam-ho' on April 14, jointly campaigning on 'practical education policies' and 'preventing ideologically biased education.' This shifted the election from a four-way race to a three-way contest.
Preliminary candidate Cheon Ho-sung criticized this unification as a 'collusion deceiving Jeonbuk's education,' while Candidate Lee Nam-ho stated the reason for unification was 'to prevent Jeonbuk's education from going backward.'
