Chungbuk Education Official Faces Court Hearing on Illegal Filming Charges
A former official from the Chungbuk Provincial Office of Education faced a court hearing on April 1 to determine his detention status, accused of installing hidden cameras in public restrooms, including a restaurant, and filming the bodies of 41 individuals. The official is understood to have committed the offenses while employed by the office.
In addition to the restaurant public restroom, the former official, identified as A, installed illegal cameras in restrooms at relatives' homes and in women's dormitories at a training facility. This official reportedly installed cameras in the women's dormitories at the training facility early this year and illegally filmed colleagues' bodies over two days. Illegal filming also took place over several days in restrooms at relatives' homes. From January 3 to February 25 of this year, former official A illegally filmed the bodies of 41 individuals across a total of six locations, including two public restrooms at a restaurant. A total of 47 illegal recordings were discovered on four small cameras used in the crimes.
Prosecutors have indicted former official A on charges of filming with a camera and trespassing in a multi-use facility for sexual purposes under the Act on Special Cases Concerning Sexual Crimes.
