Reese Witherspoon Warns of AI Threat to Women's Jobs
Acclaimed actress Reese Witherspoon has sounded an alarm, urging women to learn AI technology and prepare for the future, warning that artificial intelligence (AI) could replace women's jobs at three times the rate it affects men's. Witherspoon's warning stems from a report released last year by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Poland's National Research Institute, which indicated that job sectors predominantly held by women are approximately three times more likely to be automated by AI compared to those held by men.
The report found that 9.6% of jobs traditionally associated with women are at risk of AI automation, compared to just 3.5% of jobs predominantly held by men.
Witherspoon highlighted that only three out of ten women in her book club are currently using AI, suggesting that women are falling behind in adopting and utilizing AI technologies. She noted that women's AI usage rates are, on average, 25% lower than men's, and urged them to learn AI together to keep pace. This is not the first time Witherspoon has advocated for women's preparedness in the AI era; she has previously encouraged women and filmmakers to acquire AI skills in interviews, including with Glamour magazine.
