Flooding and Landslide Warnings for Capital Region and Daegu... Seoul, Gyeonggi Landslide Alert Raised to 'Warning'
Record-breaking heavy rains pummeled the Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Daegu regions as well as the central part of the country, causing rivers to overflow and a sharp rise in landslide risks. By this morning, over 150 to 190mm of rain had fallen in areas including Paju, Gyeonggi Province, and Cheorwon, Gangwon Province. Water levels in major rivers such as Seoul’s Bulgangcheon rose sharply, triggering flood warnings and emergency disaster alerts. The Korea Forest Service raised the landslide crisis alert level for Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province from 'Caution' to 'Warning,' one step higher, as of 6 a.m.
In Daegu’s Suseong District, a catastrophic downpour of 89mm per hour occurred around 10:10 p.m. last night, prompting the issuance of emergency disaster messages. Approximately 100 damage reports were filed in the Daegu and North Gyeongsang regions, including an incident where a family of four was stranded.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety raised the heavy rain and flood crisis alert to 'Warning' and activated Level 2 emergency standby status at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters.
