Kim Boo-kyum: Next 4 Years Will Be Golden Age for Daegu's Development

Former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum has designated the next four years as a 'golden age' for Daegu's development. This assessment comes in the context of a period when policy implementation for regional development will be facilitated by the overlapping terms of President Lee Jae-myung and the newly elected Daegu mayor.

Former PM Kim highlighted Daegu's economic stagnation and its consistent position at the bottom in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) for the past 15 to 20 years. He diagnosed that the city has lost its vitality due to the monopoly of a specific political party that has lasted for over 30 years.

Former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum stated that the 6.98㎢ site of the Daegu military airport, along with its surrounding areas totaling approximately 5 million pyeong (about 16.5 million square meters), will be the space responsible for Daegu's future for the next 30 years. He proposed a plan to grant development rights for this site to five major corporations, creating it as a space for job creation and the development of advanced software and AI technologies.

Referring to Daegu City's budget of approximately 11 trillion won and the 13 trillion won required for the military airport relocation project, Former PM Kim emphasized the need for government financial support from the perspective of balanced national development.

Former PM Kim said he is sensing a shift in public sentiment in Daegu, traditionally a conservative stronghold. He explained that citizens' perceptions are changing due to the reality of their children leaving for Seoul in search of jobs.

Former PM Kim asserted that a healthy conservative movement can only be revived if the ruling People Power Party is disciplined, and that granting him an opportunity would be a path to revitalizing Korean politics and Daegu.
