Democratic Party's Metropolitan Leader Nominations: All Incumbents Eliminated
The Democratic Party has finalized all 16 candidates for metropolitan leadership positions. Not a single incumbent leader secured a nomination, and the 'incumbency premium,' which typically influences local elections, was absent in this primary race.
The party lost five metropolitan leadership positions, including Gyeonggi Province, to incumbent lawmakers.
Lawmakers Choo Mi-ae and Min Hyung-bae secured tickets to the general election, with Choo confirming her nomination without a runoff by winning over half the votes. Former Seongdong District Mayor Jeong Won-oh and former Daejeon Mayor Huh Tae-jung won their respective primaries. Lawmakers Han Ho-joon and Ahn Ho-young were eliminated in the primaries.
