Trump Reaffirms No Nuclear Weapons Use Against Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump once again made it clear that he would not use nuclear weapons against Iran. He also indicated he would not rush discussions to restore the JCPOA, the former nuclear deal with Iran. President Trump stressed that Iran cannot be allowed to possess nuclear weapons and that they must not and will never acquire them. He added that all these issues hinge on whether Iran possesses nuclear weapons.
Meeting with reporters, President Trump dismissed the possibility of using nuclear weapons against Iran, calling it a "stupid question" and retorting, "Why would I use nuclear weapons?" He stated, "We have already decimated them conventionally," and dismissed the idea, saying, "I will not be using nuclear weapons, and no one should be using nuclear weapons."
When pointed out that the conflict with Iran has exceeded the initially planned '4-6 weeks,' he agreed, "That's correct," but explained, "because by the 4- or 6-week mark, their military was already decimated."
While President Trump did not disclose a specific timeline for negotiations with Iran, he said, "It's going to happen pretty quickly, and we will reopen the straits." He added that the straits are closed and controlled, and they will be reopened when Iran agrees or something positive happens.
President Trump claimed that Iran's current economic situation is poor due to their inability to move oil and conduct financial transactions, leading them to desire a deal. He asserted that with a 100% effective maritime blockade, Iran cannot conduct any business, is in a bad economic state, and is unable to make any financial transactions, thus wanting a deal.
President Trump assessed that Iran is in a state of disarray due to infighting for power and other internal struggles. He explained that a completely new leadership has emerged, and they are fighting among themselves over who will gain control.
