Rubio Reiterates U.S. Rejection of Iran's Control Over Strait of Hormuz
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States cannot accept Iran's assertion of control over the Strait of Hormuz and its attempts to acquire nuclear weapons.
Iran has reportedly conveyed a proposal to the U.S. to prioritize opening the Strait of Hormuz and hold nuclear negotiations after a declaration of an end to the war. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio criticized this proposal as an attempt to institutionalize a system where Iran dictates the use and cost of international waterways.
Amidst the breakdown of peace negotiations between the two sides, Secretary Rubio assessed that Iran's internally divided leadership is acting as an obstacle to reaching an agreement.
