Five Students Stop Bus After Driver Collapses at Wheel
Five students calmly stopped a school bus after the driver lost consciousness mid-route, preventing a major accident in Mississippi. The incident was revealed through footage shared by the Hancock County School District.
On November 24 (local time), driver Leah Taylor collapsed due to an asthma attack, causing the bus to continue moving forward. A student seated near the front noticed Taylor falling and immediately grabbed the steering wheel. When Taylor briefly regained consciousness only to slump backward again, other students rushed to the front and applied the brakes, bringing the bus to a complete stop. After stopping the bus, the students remained composed and initiated a call for help.
Hancock Middle School Principal Melissa Sosie stated, "I was not surprised at all to hear about the students' calm and quick actions. They handled an extremely dangerous situation perfectly. I am very proud of them." The school publicly honored the five students—McKenzie Finch, Jackson Cassanave, Darius Clark, Kaylee Clark, and Destiny Cornelius—during an event that day. Taylor has since recovered and said the students "saved my life."
