Government to Expand Use of High Oil Price Relief Funds
Vice Minister Kim Min-jae of the Ministry of Interior and Safety presided over the third meeting of the "Inter-agency Task Force on High Oil Price Relief Funds" at the Government Complex Sejong on April 30, 2026.
Restrictions on the use of relief funds due to high oil prices have been eased, allowing gas stations with annual sales exceeding 3 billion won to use the funds. Those who received the support in the form of credit cards, debit cards, or prepaid cards will be able to use them at any gas station within their local government jurisdiction starting May 1, 2026.
The scope of support has been broadened to include gas stations with sales exceeding a certain threshold, aiming to contribute to economic recovery. This initiative was pursued with the goal of alleviating the difficulties faced by the retail sector due to high oil prices and partially stimulating consumer sentiment.
The inter-agency task force will continue to monitor the impact on the domestic market and maintain a flexible and swift policy response in line with changes in the economic situation.
