October 28 Investment Report: AI Value Investing Portfolio +39.2%
A Solid Day for the AI Value Investing Portfolio Amid a 3% KOSPI Surge
With the KOSPI leaping 168.87 points (+3.09%) in a single day to reclaim the 5,638 level, the AI Value Investing Portfolio absorbed the bullish momentum in full, posting total assets of $13,918 and a cumulative return of +39.18%. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index's 2.82% surge provided the perfect tailwind for a portfolio stacked with the 3x leveraged SOXL and semiconductor individual stocks. Still, the portfolio sits roughly $1,000 below its October 22 peak of $14,923, leaving it at a crossroads: whether this rebound marks the end of the correction or merely a bounce within a downtrend remains to be seen.

AMD's Commanding Position and Micron's Pressed-Down Value
The biggest driver of returns is undoubtedly AMD. With the current price topping $516 against an average cost basis of $198.62, the position has racked up gains of roughly 160% on a per-stock basis. That said, a price-to-earnings ratio above 130 is clearly a burden, and with a PEG of 0.51 factoring in growth, the stock sits in a classic phase of "expensive, but growing even faster." Micron, by contrast, remains underwater at $877 versus an average purchase price of $930, but its extreme undervaluation metrics of an 11.8x P/E and 0.16 PEG still hold. Given EPS of $74, memory earnings have yet to be fully reflected in the share price. Nvidia, with a 26.7x P/E and 0.26 PEG, trades more in cheap-for-growth territory than as a mega-cap laggard, while Intel continues to post losses, holding onto a 1.36 PEG and pinning its hopes on a turnaround.
| Stock | Shares | Purchase Price | Current Price | P/E |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Broadcom | 5.67 | $326.03 | $321.68 | 41.1 |
| Amazon | 1.95 | $208.39 | $248.00 | 20.0 |
| Intel | 2.80 | $104.56 | $86.96 | - |
| Meta | 0.55 | $653.56 | $642.62 | 21.9 |
| Direxion SOXL (SOXL) | 13.92 | $71.22 | $83.56 | - |
| TQQQ | 1.13 | $76.34 | $66.29 | - |
| AMD | 6.82 | $198.62 | $516.79 | 131.8 |
| Nvidia | 24.00 | $184.21 | $210.96 | 26.7 |
| Micron | 1.30 | $930.96 | $877.55 | 11.8 |
Repositioning Within Semiconductors: 'Position Sizing' Was Key
Recent trading activity reveals a clear strategic outline. On the 23rd, the portfolio sold portions of Nvidia and AMD to raise cash, using the proceeds to add to Micron. With Nvidia's weight having at one point exceeded 38%, the move reduced the risk of concentrating gains in a single stock while shifting capital to a relatively undervalued name for its growth within the same AI/semiconductor value chain — a case of "intra-sector rotation." Earlier, on October 9 and 16, the portfolio had likewise trimmed portions of leveraged products SOXL and TQQQ to buy Micron in tranches. Deploying buying capital in installments during each selloff pushed Micron's cost basis up to a high $930 in the short term, but if the valuation edge of a 0.16 PEG remains valid, the approach can be seen as making time an ally.

Exchange Rates and Rates: The Remaining Variables
A look at the day's indicators suggests premature optimism is unwise. The won/dollar exchange rate continued climbing to 1,324 — good news for exporters but a potential source of foreign capital outflows — while the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield settled at 4.986%, just shy of 5%, an unsettling signal for growth stock valuations. Nasdaq 100 futures opening in negative territory also leaves a question mark over whether a gap-up is in store. On the flip side, the volatility index (VIX) fell 5.45% to stabilize around 18, and Brent crude's front-month contract plunged more than 4% — both suggesting a tilt toward easing inflation pressures. In a market whipsawing between surges and slumps, this portfolio's task is clear: maintaining the balance between profit-taking rhythms on high-valuation names like AMD and staggered buying of undervalued names like Micron. Only the cast has changed; ultimately, this is a phase where 'position sizing' determines returns.
