Cheongju Mother Transported 200km After Failing to Find Emergency Hospital; Fetus Dies

An unfortunate incident occurred in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, where a 29-week pregnant woman died after failing to find a hospital for emergency delivery, resulting in the death of her fetus.

The obstetrics and gynecology clinic urgently requested multiple local major hospitals to admit the mother, who was in a critical condition with a rapidly dropping fetal heart rate, but all six hospitals refused, citing a lack of specialized medical staff.

Ultimately, the fire department deployed a helicopter approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes after receiving the report to transport the mother to a hospital in Busan, about 200km away. However, by the time she arrived at the hospital, the fetus had already passed away.

The mother underwent emergency surgery and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital; her life is reportedly not in danger.
