Smart Sericulture System Developed, Expected to Alleviate Farm Labor Shortage

The Rural Development Administration has developed a smart production system to address the long-standing issues in the sericulture industry: seasonal fluctuations in production and high labor demands.

The smart production system utilizes automated equipment to replace manual tasks such as mulberry leaf harvesting and waste removal. By employing dedicated feed and breeds that can be supplied regardless of the season, it enables year-round silkworm production.

To enhance the field applicability of the developed smart production system, the Rural Development Administration plans to launch an on-site demonstration project for the automated equipment starting next year, expand it into a demonstration project in 2027, and further develop it into a new technology pilot project in 2028.
