Daegu City has been selected for a government-backed project to establish research infrastructure capable of precisely analyzing key raw materials for secondary batteries down to the molecular level. This project secures a total budget of 29.8 billion won, including 15.5 billion won in national funding, to proactively respond to the supply chains of critical secondary battery raw materials like lithium, nickel, cobalt, and graphite, which are subject to significant supply chain risks and price fluctuations. The main objectives of the project are to ensure the quality of raw materials and diversify supply chains.

Over the next four years, Daegu City plans to build a specialized raw material precision analysis and reliability verification center within the EV battery industry circular park located in Dalseong-gun. To this end, it will introduce testing, analysis, and evaluation equipment capable of basic physical properties, advanced analysis, and cell verification, while also promoting the cultivation of specialized personnel and the development of standardized methods for raw material analysis and evaluation.

Kim Jeong-gi, Acting Mayor of Daegu City, stated that this project holds significant meaning as it lays the strategic foundation for responding to global supply chain crises, moving beyond simple industrial development. Daegu City plans to strengthen links with regional key industries such as future mobility and robotics, as well as expand the recycling of used batteries in the future.
