Major College Learning Platform Canvas Hacked, 275 Million User Records at Risk
The online learning platform 'Canvas' has been hacked. The cybercrime group 'ShinyHunters' claimed to have breached the platform's operator, 'Instructure,' and demanded money.
As a result, thousands of students experienced access disruptions, and some witnessed hacking messages during exams. Anne Arundel County Public Schools in Maryland blocked access to Canvas after detecting suspicious activity.
ShinyHunters claimed to have obtained information including usernames, email addresses, and student ID numbers. Instructure stated that it found no signs of passwords or financial information being leaked.
Instructure acknowledged the issue and is working on recovery efforts. The company announced via its official status page that it is investigating the incident.
