DP Leader Jung Chung-rae Tears Up Recalling 'Noh Sang-won Diary'
Democratic Party of Korea leader Jung Chung-rae became tearful on March 8 during a field Supreme Council meeting held in Songpa-gu, Seoul, as he referenced the 'Noh Sang-won Diary,' which allegedly detailed plans to eliminate political figures during the December 3 emergency martial law. "My skin crawled while watching the news," Jung said at the meeting, referring to the contents of the diary. He expressed his shock at the situation, stating, "I learned that there are 18 iron bar facilities underground that can hold 500 people."
Jung specifically pointed out that the Noh Sang-won Diary recorded plans to isolate and kill figures such as then-President Lee Jae-myung, himself, Woo Won-sik, Kim Myung-soo, and Kwon Soon-il during the December 3 emergency martial law. He confessed that seeing a graphic of the Yeonpyeong Island underground facility capable of holding 500 people led him to believe a terrible tragedy could have unfolded if it hadn't been prevented. As Jung's eyes welled up during his remarks, DP Floor Leader Han Byung-do and Seoul Mayoral candidate Jung Ho-young, who were beside him, offered comfort by patting his shoulder.
Earlier, on March 6, the special prosecutor team investigating the case had verified the Yeonpyeong Island facilities mentioned in the diary of former Army Security Command chief Noh Sang-won. The special prosecutor's office announced that they had confirmed numerous iron bar facilities capable of holding hundreds of people in the Yeonpyeong Unit's underground tunnels.
In response to candidate Jung Ho-young's proposal for the establishment of a 'Gangnam 4 Districts Special Committee,' Jung immediately pledged to pursue its formation.
