France Launches Probe into Elon Musk's X and Grok

Judicial investigations have been launched in France into the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter) and the artificial intelligence (AI) service 'Grok', both owned by Elon Musk. The investigation is expected to address content moderation practices on the X platform and transparency issues with the AI service.

French authorities are investigating allegations including the distribution of child sexual abuse material, the dissemination of non-consensual sexual deepfakes, collusion in denying crimes against humanity, and manipulation of automated systems. The issue of the AI service Grok generating inappropriate responses has also been included in the scope of the investigation.

Previously, Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino were summoned for voluntary questioning in France in April but did not comply. This expansion of the investigation demonstrates that French regulatory authorities are extending their oversight beyond the X platform to encompass Musk's broader AI business ventures.
