Samsung, Qualcomm Expand 5G Home Internet Service Coverage by 40%
Samsung Electronics and Qualcomm have expanded the coverage of their 5G wireless home internet service by 40% and dramatically improved data transmission speeds with 'Power Class 1 (PC1)' technology. This technology increases the speed of sending data externally by up to 10 times compared to conventional methods, even in areas with weak base station signals, and expands the signal reach (coverage) by approximately 40%.
Through this technological innovation, the two companies are expected to respond to the increasing demand for fast external data transmission for services like AI, video conferencing, and cloud services, and contribute to bridging the 'digital divide' between urban and rural areas.
The industry anticipates that this technology validation will accelerate the adoption of 5G wireless internet in environments where fiber optic cable installation is difficult or where high-speed internet is needed without complex construction. Sanil Ramachandran, Technical Director at Samsung Electronics America, stated that this will become a powerful alternative to wired high-speed internet.
