Torture Allegations Emerge as Jeong Hyeong-geun Heads Han Dong-hoon's Campaign

Past torture allegations against former lawmaker Jeong Hyeong-geun, who has agreed to serve as the campaign sponsor chairman for independent candidate Han Dong-hoon, have become a focal point for opposition attacks. In a radio interview on the 8th, Han Dong-hoon requested that attention be focused on him, stating, “This is my election, not the campaign sponsor chairman’s election.”

He added, “I am the candidate, and this is a local election,” emphasizing the need for like-minded individuals to rally for the reconstruction of conservatism. Democratic Party spokesperson Park Ji-hye criticized the appointment on the 7th, questioning, “Candidate Han Dong-hoon, who has appointed the very person implicated in torture fabrication allegations as his campaign sponsor chairman – is this the future Han Dong-hoon envisions?” Cho Kuk Innovation Party’s senior spokesperson Park Byung-eon similarly demanded the withdrawal of the appointment or Han’s resignation on the same day, stating, “Jeong Hyeong-geun is the very person who ordered the torture investigation of Kim Geun-tae, chairman of the Minchongryeon.”
