People Power Party to NA Speaker Candidate Cho: 'Must Be Speaker Who Upholds Public Will'

The People Power Party (PPP) emphasized the 'role of the National Assembly Speaker' and urged the candidate elected by the Democratic Party of Korea, Cho Jeong-sik, to listen to the public will. On the 14th, the PPP criticized the Democratic Party's decision to select six-term lawmaker Cho Jeong-sik as its candidate, stating, "Be the head of the legislature who understands the hearts of all citizens (public will), not the will of a specific force with political intentions (party leader's will)," and announced this stance.

Regarding the election of Democratic Party lawmaker Cho Jeong-sik as the National Assembly Speaker candidate, the PPP pointed out that the president's apparent support for a specific candidate constitutes 'blatant interference in party affairs' and 'undermining the spirit of separation of powers.' They stated that the appearance of the head of the executive branch virtually 'appointing' the head of the legislative branch is a dangerous attempt that shakes the foundation of democracy.

The PPP added that the criticism 'The Speaker of the National Assembly is not the president's subordinate' must be taken to heart, commenting that a public pledge to create a National Assembly for all citizens should take precedence over the commitment to help the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration.
