Candidate Registration Opens; Party Leaders Visit Regions
Candidate registration for the June 3 local elections and National Assembly by-elections began on the 14th. These elections mark the first nationwide polls since the inauguration of the Lee Jae-myung administration.
As candidate registration commenced, Democratic Party leader Jung Cheong-rae visited Ulleungdo, meeting with residents and stating, "There is no precedent for a party leader visiting Ulleungdo." He added, "We need an attitude that breaks stereotypes and reaches any place desired, even Ulleungdo." People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk visited the Chungcheong region for three consecutive days to secure votes, attending the launch ceremony for the campaign committee of Sejong Mayor candidate Choi Min-ho in Sejong City, focusing his efforts on winning over voters in the region.
At a debate hosted by the Korea Newspaper Editors' Association, Democratic Party candidate Jung Won-oh asserted that the claim of a "31-year-old assault incident" against him was "false" and filed a complaint against lawmaker Kim Jae-seop for violating election law. In a separate debate session for People Power Party candidate Oh Se-hoon at the same venue, a Q&A session was held concerning Oh's achievements and limitations.
In the Pyeongtaek-Eul constituency in Gyeonggi Province, Democratic Party candidate Kim Yong-nam, People Power Party candidate Yoo Ui-dong, and Choice Korea Party candidate Cho Kuk completed their registrations by visiting the election management committee.
