Park Gyun-taek urges Cho Kuk to "apologize for failure in prosecutorial reform"
Park Gyun-taek, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea, has urged Cho Kuk, leader of the Rebuilding Korea Party, to apologize for the failure of prosecutorial reform. On May 15, Park posted an article on his Facebook page titled 'Does Cho Kuk have the right to speak of prosecutorial reform?'
Park argued that before criticizing remarks made by other politicians, Cho should first take responsibility for the failures and accountability during the process of pushing for prosecutorial reform under the Moon Jae-in administration. He pointed out that Cho, as the Senior Secretary to the President for Civil Affairs at the time, designed and pushed for prosecutorial reform and was responsible for personnel operations, but ultimately delegated personnel authority to then-Prosecutor General Yoon Suk-yeol, leading to a situation where the prosecution operated like an organization for a specific faction.
Earlier, Cho had stated on Facebook that he would fight against the 'Yoon Suk-yeol prosecution dictatorship regime' and complete prosecutorial reform, while criticizing candidate Kim Yong-nam for remarks advocating for the revival of prosecutorial investigative authority and supplementary investigation rights.
Park claimed that Cho's misjudgment of the prosecution, incompetence, and political ambition influenced President Yoon Suk-yeol's election. He added that there is a connection between Cho's family's judicial issues and Yoon's rise to power.
