YouTube Expands AI Video Detection Tool to All Creators

YouTube is expanding its AI-powered likeness detection tool, making it available to all creators aged 18 and over.

To use this service, creators must complete identity verification in YouTube Studio via the 'Likeness' menu within 'Content Discovery,' which requires government-issued ID and a selfie video. Once registered, the system will scan uploaded videos in real-time to identify similar faces. Users can then review these findings and request the removal of infringing content.

The system operates solely based on facial matching and does not detect voice impersonation. Amidst a surge in AI-generated videos that are difficult to distinguish by eye, this tool is expected to serve as a practical defense mechanism for continuously monitoring unauthorized likeness usage. It is particularly anticipated to be useful in detecting unauthorized likeness usage by brands or corporations without their permission.
