Reform Party Alleges Yang Hyang-ja Misrepresented Education
The Reform Party has raised allegations that Yang Hyang-ja, a People Power Party candidate for Gyeonggi Provincial Governor, misrepresented her educational background in election promotional materials. In a statement released on the 25th, the Reform Party pointed to Yang's listing of a 'Ph.D. in AI Strategy and Management' on the promotional materials and the fact that she 'proposed and passed the Semiconductor Special Act,' arguing that this could cause confusion among voters.
Yang's campaign explained that 'AI Strategy and Management' is a specific major within business administration and that her degree is a 'Ph.D. in Business Administration.' They also clarified that 'Semiconductor Special Act' is a common shorthand for the bill she proposed in the 21st National Assembly, a natural way to refer to it. Yang's side refuted the Reform Party's allegations, calling them 'malicious smear campaigns.'
This allegation has heightened interest in the importance of voter information pamphlets and candidate verification ahead of the local elections. Election pamphlets serve as a primary channel for voters to understand candidates.
