South Korea Summons Iranian Ambassador to Lodge Protest Over Ship Attack
South Korea's Foreign Ministry summoned Iran's Ambassador to Seoul, Saeed Kouzechi, on January 27 to officially protest an incident involving an attack on a South Korean vessel.
The incident occurred on January 4 in the Strait of Hormuz, where the HMM-operated container ship 'Namuho' was struck.
The South Korean government's internal investigation concluded that the vessel was likely hit by an Iranian anti-ship missile.
First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yun-ju summoned Saeed Kouzechi, the Iranian Ambassador to South Korea, to the ministry's Seoul headquarters. She presented the investigation findings and related evidence regarding the attack on the Namuho, lodging a strong protest and demanding responsible actions.
Ambassador Kouzechi reportedly expressed regret over the damage sustained by the South Korean vessel but denied any Iranian involvement in the incident.
