Trump Denies Reports of Halting Talks with Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump has denied reports of a halt in talks with Iran, stating that dialogue between the two countries is continuing. On the 2nd (local time), President Trump posted on his social platform 'Truth Social' that reports claiming the U.S. and Iran had halted talks a few days ago were 'fake news,' and explained that dialogue between the U.S. and Iran is 'continuously ongoing.'
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo mentioned that Iran agreed to negotiate on elements of its nuclear program. The U.S. is demanding Iran extend a 60-day ceasefire, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, refrain from possessing or developing nuclear weapons, and remove highly enriched uranium (HEU) from Iran.
Pompeo cited internal divisions within Iran's regime as a reason for delays in negotiations with Iran, adding that Iran is losing hundreds of millions of dollars in daily revenue due to the U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
