Booker Slams Trump's Iran Deal as 'Abject Surrender'
U.S. Senator Cory Booker has strongly criticized the recent agreement between President Donald Trump and Iran, calling it an "abject surrender." Booker pointed out that the agreement has diminished America's international influence and brought billions of dollars in benefits to Iran, while the U.S. lost its leverage. Appearing on NBC's 'Meet the Press,' he described President Trump as the "biggest loser" on the international stage, with "egg on his face." Booker added that while Trump calls himself a great negotiator, Iran is currently enjoying billions of dollars in benefits. He explained that U.S. dollars and resources could be used to help rebuild Iran, with the cost continuing to be borne by America.
Booker spoke about the new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Iran. He stated, "They know that they've won. And they know that Donald Trump is probably now an abject loser on the world stage." Booker, reminding listeners that he had voted to end wars eight times, criticized the MOU for providing benefits to Iran and leaving the U.S. with fewer options. "This deal is an abject surrender," said Cory Booker. He claimed that Trump had abandoned U.S. negotiating leverage and failed to achieve the goals set at the outset of the conflict.
Booker referred to President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as "failed leaders," expressing concern that they are obstructing the path to peace in the Middle East. He also stated, "The world needs leadership right now, but from our Middle Eastern allies to our NATO allies, I keep hearing, 'Your president is dangerous to the world.'"
When Democratic strategist James Carville argued that Trump should receive some credit for ending a war rather than escalating it, Booker rejected this. He countered by likening it to "praising an arsonist for running out of a burning building after setting it on fire." Booker criticized Republicans for allowing Trump to conduct a war without sufficient checks from Congress.
