National Assembly Committee Formation Talks Hit Snag, Ruling-Opposition Parties Clash Over Standing Committee Seats
Amidst the difficult negotiations for the National Assembly's second-half committee formation, the Democratic Party of Korea on the 24th pressured the People Power Party by stating its intention to take charge of all 18 standing committees.
The Speaker's office has re-extended the deadline for submitting the list of National Assembly standing committee members to the 26th, but as of the 24th, the ruling and opposition parties had failed to find common ground on committee composition despite eight rounds of negotiations.
The Democratic Party announced that if negotiations are not concluded by the 26th, it will take responsibility for all 18 standing committees, and on the 24th, it unilaterally submitted a proposal for the second-half committee composition to the National Assembly Secretariat.
