Woo Won-sik Criticizes Democratic Party Convention for 'Power Struggle' Dynamics

Criticism has emerged that discussions surrounding the Democratic Party's national convention are shifting away from livelihood issues towards competition for future power. Former National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik stated that he was ashamed of the party's current state, given that citizens are lamenting economic difficulties, and added that internal party conflict is severe.

He pointed to former party leader Jung Chung-rai's push for the complete abolition of the prosecution's supplementary investigation rights, suggesting that such moves appear to support the president. Woo argued this could lead to public anxiety and a decline in trust by being perceived as adversarial to the government and ruling party. Woo highlighted a lack of consideration for agendas directly impacting people's lives, instead being preoccupied with internal party factional conflicts aimed at securing nomination rights for the 2028 general elections. He viewed the actions of party leadership candidates Kim Min-seok and Song Young-gil as a power struggle, characterized by sentiments like 'I can win' or 'If that person runs, I will too.' He criticized the party for failing to provide an answer to the public's question: 'What are you doing after creating a democratic government?'
