Speaker Johnson Meets Trump at White House

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson is set to meet with former President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday. The meeting aims to resolve the current legislative stalemate.

A conservative faction within the Republican party is currently blocking the processing of House bills to pressure the Senate into passing Trump-backed election legislation. Republican leadership canceled a vote scheduled for Wednesday (local time) due to hardliners' refusal to process the bill. Representative Anna Paulina Luna stated that there would be no vote this week.

Former President Trump is pushing for the passage of the SAVE America Act, but the bill has yet to pass the House. Speaker Johnson has proposed including key provisions of the SAVE America Act into a bipartisan bill currently under negotiation as a way to break the deadlock. However, Rep. Luna argued that passing a scaled-down version of the bill is "impossible" and that the "SAVE America Act cannot pass as part of a bipartisan bill."
