KT Showcases Quantum Encryption Technology and Industry Application Cases

KT has unveiled next-generation encryption technologies and industry application cases at 'Quantum Korea 2026'. KT presented technologies prepared for the quantum computing era, along with proof-of-concept cases for quantum cryptographic communication applied to real industrial sites, including public, finance, and defense sectors. This event is being held for three days from April 2nd at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul, where KT is exhibiting its cutting-edge technologies under the theme 'Where the Quantum Future Begins, KT'. KT has been participating in this event for four consecutive years since 2023.

KT is focusing on quantum-resistant cryptography (PQC) and quantum key distribution (QKD) technologies, introducing advancements to its proprietary wired QKD technology, which achieved 300kbps last year. The company demonstrated the potential for enhanced security across various industries by proposing applications of quantum encryption technology not only in wired communications but also in wireless environments. Furthermore, to expand the scope of quantum encryption application in wireless settings, KT is developing technology to extend the verified operational distance from approximately 4.8km in 2025 to over 10km.

KT also presented various proof-of-concept cases, including the application of PQC to key defense systems under the '2026 Quantum-Resistant Cryptography Pilot Transition Support Project', interoperable quantum cryptographic communication linking Seoul and Busan, Shinhan Bank's hybrid quantum security network, and the National Cancer Center's AI medical data encryption project.

On the main stage of the DDP Art Hall on the 3rd, KT held a presentation titled 'Towards Quantum Internet', detailing its quantum cryptographic communication technologies, future plans, and its vision for leading the quantum internet. Jeon Myeong-jun, Head of KT Enterprise Service Group, stated that quantum technology is no longer a distant future but is becoming a reality, and pledged that KT will continue to play a crucial role in fostering the domestic quantum ecosystem and securing South Korea's leadership in the global quantum industry.
