Co-Chair Yoo Seung-min Criticizes Government: '128 Trillion Won Spent Over 12 Years, Yet Fertility Rate Stands at 1.05... Policy Failure'
Co-Chair Yoo Seung-min of the Bareunmirae Party criticized the Moon Jae-in administration's low birth rate measures and the failure to execute the supplementary budget for jobs during a Supreme Council meeting on the 2nd, while emphasizing the priority of ROK-U.S. alliance coordination. He pointed out that with the 2017 total fertility rate hitting a record low of 1.05—the lowest among OECD nations—the low birth rate problem remains unresolved despite 128 trillion won being injected into the budget over the past 12 years.
Co-Chair Yoo highlighted the low execution rate of the supplementary budget compiled to create jobs for young people. Noting that the execution rates for programs such as the SME Youth Employment Internship System and Employment Success Package remain at the 60–85% level, he characterized the compilation of the supplementary budget as a 'show for political showboating.'
Co-Chair Yoo took issue with the President's remarks related to the March 1st Independence Movement Day address. Rather than rushing a debate over the designation of a National Founding Day, he argued that ROK-U.S. relations should take priority amid the North Korean nuclear crisis. He urged for alliance coordination through the dispatch of a special envoy to the U.S. or a summit prior to the dispatch of a special envoy to North Korea.
