Government Allocates 71.3 Billion Won for Recovery from July Rains Damage
The central government has decided to invest 7.13 billion won to recover areas damaged by the heavy rains and localized downpours in July. The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters announced on the 19th that it finalized last month's rain damage at 3.09 billion won and decided to allocate a total of 7.13 billion won, including 640 million won in disaster support funds and 6.49 billion won for public facility repairs.
From the 8th to the 24th of last month, a stationary front oscillated north and south, causing heavy rains that resulted in damage, including flooded homes, across 89 districts in 13 cities and provinces nationwide. Two homes were completely destroyed, three were partially destroyed, and 376 households were flooded. Agricultural and forestry crop damage was tallied at 900 hectares (1 hectare equals 10,000 square meters), and farmland loss reached 32 hectares. Among small businesses, 231 establishments suffered direct damage.
Damage to public facilities spanned 208 small streams, 203 small-scale facilities, 71 rivers, 48 water management facilities, 46 landslides, 33 roads, and 5 water supply systems.
Disaster support funds of 3.5 million won will be provided to each household with flooded homes, and 3 million won to each affected small business. Farmers will receive repair costs calculated based on the extent of the damage.
Additionally, 25 benefits will be applied to affected residents, including deferment of national tax payments, extension of local tax deadlines, exemption from National Pension contributions, loans for disaster recovery funds, loans for emergency management stabilization funds, and reductions in water and sewage fees. Four locations designated as Special Disaster Areas—Ilji-myeon, Namseon-myeon, and Iha-myeon in Andong, Gyeongbuk, and Danjon-myeon in Uiseong-gun—will receive an additional 13 forms of support, including reductions in National Health Insurance premiums and electricity, telecommunications, and city gas fees.
Minister of the Interior and Safety Yun Ho-jung stated, "We will concentrate government administrative power to quickly conduct damage surveys and provide recovery funds to help areas damaged by the heavy rains centered on Gyeongnam province since the 15th return to daily life as soon as possible."
