Kim Nam-hee: 'Abolishing Supplementary Investigation Authority Completely Is Harmful to Democracy'…Cites Concerns Over Police Corruption
Rep. Kim Nam-hee of the Democratic Party of Korea joined a bill proposed by Rep. Hong Gi-won on the 13th, which seeks to retain supplementary investigation authority exclusively for cases involving socially vulnerable individuals.
In an interview with The Hankyoreh on the 16th, he opposed the complete abolition of the authority, explaining his decision to co-sponsor the bill that includes exceptions for the protection of the socially vulnerable.
It was subsequently confirmed that Rep. Kim received malicious messages and criticism, including accusations of colluding with the prosecution, from proponents of complete abolition within the party and certain YouTubers.
In response, Rep. Kim criticized this behavior as 'conduct that harms democracy.'
