Poll Shows Opposition to Abolishing Prosecutors' Supplementary Investigation Authority Outpaces Support
A Gallup Korea poll confirmed that responses opposing the complete abolition of the prosecution's supplementary investigation authority, based on the principle of separating investigation and indictment, outnumbered those in favor by more than 2.5 times.
In this survey conducted on 1,003 adults nationwide from the 14th to the 16th, 61% supported maintaining the authority, while 23% supported its complete abolition.
Among respondents in the Honam region, a key support base for the Democratic Party, 55% chose to maintain the authority, and among the party's supporters as a whole, 46% favored retention, overwhelming the 39% who supported abolition.
