France's Southern Wildfire Contained... 140,000 Evacuees Return Home

A massive wildfire in southwestern France has been contained, allowing some 140,000 evacuated residents to return to their homes.

Conversely, in Greece, wildfires continued to spread, forcing the evacuation of over 8,000 residents in the southern region. Meanwhile, Turkey has reported more than 100 wildfires.

Amidst a heatwave and drought, water levels in the Danube River have dropped, forcing the shutdown of one reactor unit at Hungary's Paks nuclear power plant, which uses river water for cooling. Romanian authorities also halted operations at one reactor unit due to reduced flow in the Danube.

In Bulgaria, a cruise ship ran aground in the Danube due to low water levels, prompting the evacuation of tourists.
