Visitors to Free Soup Kitchen Beat the Heat with Cold Noodles and Watermelon, Sharing Warmth
Amidst sweltering heatwaves, a free soup kitchen in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul is serving as a shelter by offering dishes such as cold cucumber soup and watermelon. An average of hundreds of people visit this center daily, which provides breakfast and lunch every day.
The visitors are primarily elderly people living alone and the homeless, who begin arriving early in the morning. Air conditioning is running inside the kitchen, allowing visitors to escape the heat.
Volunteers helped prepare and serve the meals. Heo Seo-young, who came from Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, was in charge of cutting ingredients, serving, and wiping tables. A volunteer from New York, USA also participated in the volunteer work.
