Chung Chi-seung Criticizes 'Shincheonji Involvement Allegations' as False Report
Chung Chi-seung, a candidate for the Democratic Party's leadership, criticized allegations of Shincheonji's involvement in the party's convention, stating on his Facebook page on the 6th, "If you can't provide evidence, it's a false report." Chung pointed out that baseless allegations, much like false fire alarms that lead to wasted resources, cause confusion within the party. This is a countermove to Kim Min-seok's comparison of Chung's warning about Shincheonji's involvement to "arson" on the 27th of last month.
Chung also highlighted at the second TV debate that Kim failed to present clear evidence regarding the Shincheonji allegations. He cited Kim's "riding the president's coattails" remarks, lack of apology for investing in single-stock leveraged ETFs, and past party defection history, arguing that Kim is "untrustworthy and unreliable."
He went on to emphasize the trust between himself and party members by stating, "Those who keep loyalty will keep it again, and if they betray once, they will betray again." Chung criticized Kim's actions as being "as bad as arsonists" and urged party members, "Let's not elect bad people."
