Kyobo Education Foundation Launches AI Ethics ON Youth Camp

The Kyobo Education Foundation is stepping up to strengthen youth AI ethics capabilities. The foundation, in partnership with the Korea Intelligent Information Society Agency (NIA) and KT, held the ‘2026 1st AI Ethics ON Youth Camp’ on July 30th at Sookmyung Women's University in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The camp was designed to foster responsible AI usage skills among young people in the era of generative AI. Seventy-eight middle school students, selected nationwide, showed keen interest, with a fierce competition rate of 3 to 1.

The educational program focused on hands-on activities where students could directly assess and discuss the social and ethical implications of AI. Notably, the ‘AI Value Judgment Debate,’ jointly developed by the Kyobo Education Foundation and the Seoul National University of Education's AI Value Judgment Design Center, was designed to teach ethical decision-making processes using value cards based on UNESCO's Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence. Participants honed their response capabilities by applying AI ethics principles such as transparency, fairness, privacy, and human control to real-world scenarios, and spent time consolidating their learning through creating ethics matrices and producing card news.

Student Lee Min-kyung, who participated in the camp, shared her thoughts: “It gave me a chance to establish usage standards by considering the issues behind AI's convenience.” The Kyobo Education Foundation plans to continue expanding experiential education through public-private partnerships to equip young people with the AI ethics capabilities needed for the future society.
