North Carolina Father Sues Over Daughter's Restroom Access

A father in North Carolina has taken his school district to court, claiming officials refused to clarify whether biological males are permitted to use the same restroom as his daughter. Brandon Matthews filed a federal lawsuit against the Cabarrus County Board of Education regarding restroom access for his fourth-grade daughter.

At a school board meeting on the 11th, Matthews attended with his daughter and relayed her statement: "I don't want boys coming into the girls' bathroom," while demanding the separation of male and female facilities.

The America First Legal Foundation (AFL) filed a federal lawsuit against Cabarrus County Schools seeking disclosure of policies and practices regarding access to sex-separated restrooms and locker rooms. AFL Senior Counsel Nicholas Barry stated that Matthews still does not know if male students are using his daughter's restroom. According to the complaint, Matthews is not seeking the identity of specific students, but is simply asking whether access by members of the opposite sex is permitted.
