Leadership candidates for the Democratic Party of Korea's Aug. 17 convention are accelerating their vote-gathering efforts ahead of the start of registered party member voting in the Honam region and the Seoul metropolitan area. With registered party member voting set to begin sequentially from the 11th, candidates Song Young-gil, Chung Jin-sik, and Kim Min-seok are going all out.

Kim Min-seok announced via Facebook that he would take responsibility for the future of Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk, as well as national success, general election victory, and Honam's development. He stressed that he would become a dependable party leader to build a winning Democratic Party and lead to stable victories for both the party and the government.

Chung Jin-sik also appealed on Facebook, asking for Chung Jin-sik's wave to defeat Kim Min-seok's organization, just as Roh Moo-hyun's wave defeated Lee In-je's organization in 2002. He also implored registered party members in Honam to protect him, who has kept his loyalty, and to choose him as their strong reformist party leader.

As voting for registered party members in Honam and the Seoul metropolitan area commences, the vote-gathering strategies and movements of each candidate are expected to continue.
