The three major US stock indices opened mixed amid renewed optimism for a potential deal between the United States and Iran. As of 9:46 AM ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.33% to 54,154.14 on the New York Stock Exchange. The S&P 500, an index of large-cap stocks, rose 0.02% to 7,754.35, while the Nasdaq Composite, focused on technology stocks, traded down 0.26% at 26,535.63.

International oil prices saw a decline on the back of expectations for a US-Iran agreement. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for September delivery fell 0.24% to $81.93 a barrel. This followed remarks from Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif indicating that the situation was materializing and from Majed Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, regarding the ongoing negotiations.

Individual stocks showed divergent movements based on corporate earnings and investment ratings. Riot Platforms, a cryptocurrency mining company, surged 10.93% following news of a $9 billion deal with Anthropic. First Solar, a solar panel manufacturer, also climbed 1.81% on an upward revision of its target price. Conversely, Rocket Lab, a US space company, dropped 4.58% due to the postponement of its Neutron rocket's maiden flight.

Major European stock markets also posted gains. The Euro Stoxx 50, an index of 50 blue-chip stocks in the eurozone, traded up 0.55% at 6,571.82. The French CAC 40, the UK's FTSE 100, and Germany's DAX all saw increases compared to the previous session. Major European indices, including those from Germany, France, and the UK, continued to trade higher in tandem.
