Yang Kyung-kyu Elected Justice Party Leader... Aims for 'Mass-based Progressive Party'

Former lawmaker Yang Kyung-kyu was elected the new leader of the Justice Party on the 29th, beginning his two-year term.

Leader Yang is a former labor activist who served as Vice President of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Union, and the inaugural Vice Chairman of the Democratic Labor Party. He served as a lawmaker for four months after succeeding to the proportional representative seat in the National Assembly, which was vacated when lawmaker Ryu Ho-jeng left the party in 2024.

In his victory speech, Yang stated, "I will step forward to build a larger, new mass-based progressive party," adding, "I will increase the party membership, rebuild regional chapters to strengthen our organizational foundation, and create new agendas for progressive politics suitable for the changing times."
