Jensen Huang, Musk, Amodei Attend White House Luncheon

U.S. President Donald Trump held a luncheon at the White House with the heads of major American artificial intelligence (AI) companies on the 29th (local time), confirming a path of 'self-regulation' in which the industry itself oversees AI rather than relying on government regulation.

After the luncheon, President Trump announced that he and the AI company leaders had signed a 'Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibility,' which he shared on his social networking service (SNS), Truth Social. The commitment is a voluntary agreement under which AI companies pledge to self-assess the safety of their most powerful AI systems.

The joint commitment declares that all companies bear the responsibility of developing their technology safely and advancing it in a way that builds trust with customers and the public. To this end, the companies agreed to adopt a four-stage framework to prevent AI systems from spiraling out of control. The gist includes implementing internal control systems during model training, verifying that controls and monitoring are functioning, obtaining independent evaluations from external institutions, and designating an independent committee within the board of directors.

Among the luncheon attendees, Google CEO Pichai, Anthropic CEO Amodei, Meta CEO Zuckerberg, SpaceXAI CEO Musk, NVIDIA CEO Huang, and OpenAI President Brockman signed the joint commitment. Anthropic CEO Amodei said, "This is just the beginning."
