Ulsan City Councilman Kim Dae-young, caught drunk driving, leaves People Power Party

Ulsan City Councilman Kim Dae-young, who was caught by police for drunk driving, announced on the 30th that he would leave the People Power Party and step down from all his posts within the city council. Kim was pulled over at around 9:30 p.m. on the 23rd while driving under the influence of alcohol on a road in Dong-gu, Ulsan. His blood alcohol concentration at the time was confirmed to be at a level warranting license revocation (0.08% or higher). Kim currently serves as deputy chair of both the Council Operations Committee and the Administration and Home Affairs Committee of the Ulsan City Council.

In a statement released that day, Kim apologized, saying, "I sincerely apologize for causing disappointment and concern among citizens through my wrongful behavior." He added, "As someone who has carried out legislative activities based on the trust of citizens, I take this incident all the more seriously," and "I will humbly accept any measures and disciplinary action taken by the city council." He went on to say, "I am well aware that this does not complete my responsibility for my wrongdoing," adding, "I will strictly reflect on myself so that I never repeat the same mistake again."

The Ulsan City Council plans to proceed with disciplinary procedures against Kim in accordance with relevant regulations, including referral to a special ethics committee.
